Preventive Dental Hygiene
Routine oral exams and hygiene cleanings offered at Reflections Dental Health Centre allow our patients to prevent dental issues and keep their smiles healthy.
Oral Examinations
Routine oral exams, ideally schedule twice per year, give your dentist a chance to identify any oral health issues as they emerge and treat them accordingly.
During your routine exam, our dentists will take a close look at the health of your gums, jaws and teeth. These exams may also include dental x-rays, oral cancer screenings and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can affect any part of your mouth or surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will check your face, lips, gums, teeth, throat and tongue for any signs of oral cancer which may be difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
In order to keep your smile healthy between dental appointments, make sure that you brush your teeth twice per day for two minutes each time. As well, make sure your floss at least once per day.
Hygiene Cleaning
Either before or after your dental exam, your dental hygienist will perform a deep clean of your moth—including both your teeth and gums—to prevent and treat dental disease.
To begin, they will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, followed by thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If your child or you are at high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may also recommend that they receive a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth's enamel in order to prevent, or even reverse tooth decay.
